My life completely changed in 2001 when my 25-year marriage, which produced four amazing sons, abruptly ended. It was a traumatic experience that I was not emotionally equipped to handle, and it sent me on a long journey of healing. The pain was overwhelming and the loss unbearable. I was later diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder, and as the layers of healing unraveled over time, I was eventually able to capture the happiness I deserve. I took something that was ripped, stripped, and broken and created a more deserving life! Through personal development programs and counselling, I rediscovered the hope and self-confidence that had all but disappeared. I was aching to be the person I once was: full of laughter and joy, with long-forgotten hopes and dreams. In 2007 I was remarried, we share six grown children and fifteen amazing grandchildren. Our fun times now include hanging out with the grandkids, or my husband and I out riding our Harleys together! Life is good!

Registered Clinical Counsellor

I am fascinated by the reality that we as human beings have a deep capacity to find healing through relationships. Modern academia and ancient wisdom disclose time and time again that it is through relationships that we find the source of our strength and refuge for our vulnerability. This has become the basis of my therapeutic work, working through our nature as social and emotional creatures to cooperatively explore paths of healing and resilience.
I work with several different demographics including (but not limited to) families, adolescents/young adults, trauma, grief, group therapy, anxiety, depression, and self-harm. I primarily work with Emotion Focused Therapy and Internal Family Systems therapy.
In my free time I enjoy pursuits such as martial arts and archery.

I hold a bachelor degree in Medicine from the University of Amsterdam and a master’s degree in Counselling Psychology from Yorkville University. I have 5+ years of experience in the mental health field and have worked in various settings including acute and chronic psychiatric care, substance abuse detoxification and rehabilitation centres, and the public health sector where I got an opportunity to closely work with vulnerable population groups, in particular individuals struggling with addiction issues, sex workers, homeless individuals, and the survivors of sexual abuse and intimate partner violence. I am passionate about supporting individuals struggling with anxiety, grief & loss, substance abuse, relationship difficulties, and traumatic experiences. I work from an eclectic, strength-based therapeutic approach taking clients’ unique experiences, therapeutic needs, and contextual factors into account.
With regard to trauma-focused counselling, I am trained in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing). I also like to combine elements from different therapeutic approaches including narrative therapy, DBT, TF-CBT, and mindfulness-based somatic therapy. I am informed by the work of Bessel van der Kolk and Dr. Shapiro.
Besides English, I can speak and provide counselling in Punjabi, Hindi, and Dutch. I have also co-facilitated weekly women’s support group in Punjabi language organized by Moving Forward Family Services as an intern counsellor.

Munny Sandhu

MA, RCC
Registered Clinical Counsellor

I have been working in community mental health for over five years. I was drawn to the profession because I believe we need community, relationships, and connection to support healing and change.
From a collaborative approach, I integrate interventions, skills, and strategies, bringing insight and perspective to help manage painful thoughts and feelings. I provide a warm and supportive environment where you can feel comfortable sharing your experiences, thoughts, and feelings without judgement or criticism.
I work from an attachment informed lens to explore childhood experiences and the influence it has on you today. Together we will analyze negative patterns and look for self-sabotaging behaviours that might be preventing you from change. We will work to understand and replace these patterns so that you can live a happy meaningful life. We will integrate approaches and interventions such as mindfulness, narrative, dialectal behaviour therapy, trauma-informed, emotionally focused, family systems, and somatic approaches so that we can discover a new level of safety and grounding within.
With the validation you’ll receive, you will find that parts of you soften with understanding. The goal will be to see yourself with more compassion, love, and kindness and thus be able share this with the people around you, developing a healthy sense of self.

As we move through life we can all face struggles that are difficult to navigate on our own. Anxiety, depression or feeling stuck can arise from many different experiences: Relationship challenges, loss of a loved one, divorce, maladaptive communication patterns, changes in career or station in life, parenting struggles, issues around self esteem, schooling, purpose and meaning, setting boundaries, trauma or abuse. I aim to help my clients, whether adults or youth, heal and grow as they move through periods of change.
As a counsellor for youth, adults and couples, I believe in building a trusting relationship and forming a partnership to assist my clients through the challenges they are experiencing. My therapeutic approach combines emotion focused therapy, cognitive behavioral and solution focused therapy.
I believe that relationship is key in counselling. I am a father to three great kids and enjoy spending time in the outdoors. I enjoy reading, cooking and travel. It is important to feel comfortable and safe in our work together. With that foundation, we can delve into your challenges and find support and solutions that work for you.
